Book 11: Freaky Fast Franky Joe

Lutricia Clifton's Freaky Fast Frankie Joe is a story about a twelve year old boy named Frankie Joe Huckaby.  He he had been living in Laredo, Texas until his mother was put in jail, leaving him in need of a guardian.  That guardian turned out to be his father, whom he had never met.  Frankie Joe's father takes him to Illinois to stay with him and his family until his mother is released from jail.  Upon arrival in the small town of Clearview, Illinois, Frankie Joe learns that there is a lot about his father that his mother has not told him, most importantly that he's married and has four sons.  Frankie Joe has a lot to adjust to in this new environment: a new family, going to school regularly,  new friends, and living without his mother.  These transitions prove to be hard for Frankie Joe, motivating him to figure out a way to runaway back to Laredo, where everything is familiar and comfortable.  He soon learns that even though "old" is comfortable, sometimes "new" is right where you need to be.

Another of the Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominees, Freaky Fast Frankie Joe is a book that all the students will love.
