Book 12: Fairest of All

Fairest of All by Sarah Mlynowski is somewhat of a fractured fairy tale. It follows Abby and her brother Jonah, who have just moved to the town of Smithville.  In the basement of their new house, Jonah finds a mirror hanging on the wall, that when knocked on several times becomes enchanted.  Jonah wakes up Abby in the middle of the night to show her the mirror, demonstrating what it does when knocked on.  In a matter of moments, Abby and Jonah are transported through the mirror from their basement into a forest.  It doesn't take long for them to realize that they aren't in Smithville anymore and have been dropped right in the middle of the fairy tale Snow White. The two must find their way home, all the while trying to make sure the story of Snow White doesn't change, even though their presence has taken the fairytale on different course.

Fairest of All is a 2013-2014 Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominee.  Fairy tales are a big hit with the students at my school, so I know they will really enjoy this take on Snow White.
